Costa Rica has one of the highest rates if biodiversity in the world, yet what was I thinking about as I took the Gypsy Cab from the Liberia Airport to Nosara? Not howler monkeys, that’s for sure. No, I was thinking about pipas frias (coconut water straight from the coconut) and aguas frescas (fruits blended with cold water).

I’ve always loved horchata and jamaica, but was recently exposed to the yumminess that is agua de mora – blackberry water. Fresh blackberry are pureed, added to ice cold water, sweetened just a wee bit and then poured into a glass for me to greedily drink. The beer isn’t bad down here and the wine, while limited in selection, isn’t overpriced, but it’s the aguas I’m looking forward to sampling on the rest of my trip . . .
