“But this one is great, honey!”
Yes, admittedly, the combined weight of my extra cookbooks and old cooking magazines collapsed the top of our pantry. In response, I meticulously picked through the magazines, saving recipes I wanted in a a surprisingly organized manner. The rest went in the recycling, along with one or two cookbooks I could bring myself to part with.
The Longevity Kitchen. The title doesn’t grab you at first. Last week when I was visiting my parents I read an article about a local contest, where you submit your information and maybe, maybe you would be awarded a copy of this cookbook.
Instead I pulled out my smartphone and ordered it on Amazon. It was at the house before I got home!
The Longevity Kitchen. This is a really great cookbook! It takes as a point of departure the so-called 16 Super Foods:
- Asparagus
- Avocado
- Basil/mint
- Blueberries
- Coffee
- Dark chocolate
- Garlic
- Green tea
- Kale
- Olive oil
- Pomegranates
- Sweet potatoes
- Thyme
- Walnuts
- Wild salmon
- Yogurt
Super foods and super recipes, and mostly gluten free. Bonus! (Click here for the website.)
To date I have tried these recipes: Latin Kale (note to self – pay attention when measuring lemon juice), Good Mood Sardines (promising to make a believer of the worst skeptic), and Shrimp Via My Ma (excellent!). I am looking forward to making Mediterranean Kebabs, Greek Chicken Salad, and most of the soups in the first chapter.
This cookbook is worth picking up. Food that is good for you, but great tasting, too. Now if they had only included wine pairings…
