Nothing says fall like cider donuts, apple picking and, of course, hard cider. And Hick’s Orchard is the place where all three autumn classics can be found, purchased and consumed. Hick’s hard cider is sold under the Slyboro Ciderhouse name with offerings that run the gambit from bone-dry to dessert-wine-sweet. After consuming enough-cider-donuts-to-feed-a-small-country just a few donuts, my friends and I made our to the tasting room. For a dollar, you can sample all the ciders currently available. Their Ice Harvest Ice Cider has a hint of spice that warms the palate and would be perfect with any number of autumn desserts that use cinnamon, cloves and the like. It will be making it’s way onto the barVino wine list soon, a great pairing with the pumpkin mascarpone from Cafe Sarah’s that we serve throughout the winter.
I grew up on Hicks. As an adult, no other orchard doughnuts or cider compare. Now I am not sure if it really was the doughnuts or just the memory.
