BILLY GOAT GRUFF…

Tui

…would love Tui, our starting point on the Camino Portugués.  Locals here go up and down mountains hills with amazing speed, and seemingly without breaking a sweat.  It is hard to complain about 200 stairs going up when an 80 year old woman is carrying three bags of groceries up them ahead of you.

Tui, where the cathedral was first built in the 12th century, and is flanked by two other impressive churches, as well as a convent.

Tui, just over the river Miño from Valenca, Portugal, where pilgrims tend to stay on weekends, because the discotheques are craaaaazy in Tui, and when they close at 7 am, the young kids move loudly and en masse to the plaza in front of the cathedral.

Tui, medieval in its roots, but full of vibrant and lively cafes and bars that tumble into the streets (for those a bit older), relishing the sun, complaining a tad about the wind.

Tomorrow we start our journey to Santiago, 20 miles, with walking sticks in hand, good maps, and the determination to enjoy the journey.  And you can bet there will be a good glass of wine and a great meal awaiting us at the end of the day.

Buen camino!
